la Gacholle Lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1882. It was partially destroyed during the second world war but the light restored again in 1947. The buildings around the lighthouse are now used by “la Reserve Nationale de Camargue”. You can visit the lighthouse, although you must park your car in the car park about 1 or 2 km from the lighthouse. That last part you can do by bicycle or by foot.

Beauduc Lighthouse

The lighthouse is enclosed between lakes and the sea. The lighthouse guides safe passage for seamen from the sandbanks of the Grand Rhône. Access to the lighthouse is not easy. You can get to the lighthouse from “la station de pompage de beauduc”. The lighthouse is about 7 km from this point on. The roads are in bad condition. The lighthouse keeper’s accommodation has fallen into disrepair. They started building the lighthouse in 1898 and it was lit 1903.

Faraman Lighthouse

The lighthouse is situated between marshes and lakes and in 1830 the first light was built. The Sea claimed this light so another was built in 1864, 190 meters from the first. Erosion continued to take more and more land , so they built the last lighthouse 1.2 km further inland.

The fort was built in 1520. For over 400 years the fort was used as a prison. On 7th of July the lighthouse was registered as a historical monument. Until 1950 the lighthouse keepers lived on the island. At this moment the prison is a tourist place you can visit.
