Feu d'Honfleur

The first lighthouse was built in 1853 and was lit in 1857. The lighthouse is also called phare de l‘hopital. The lighthouse was in use till 1908. They began building a replacement lighthouse after the lighthouse of Fatouville was turned off.

In 1828 they built 2 lighthouses: one in the dunes and one on top of the church of Ouistreham. The current lighthouse was built in 1899. So the lighthouse is already more than 100 years old. It was automated in 1993.

In 1927 the lighthouse found fame because it guided to safety one of the first trans Atlantic crossings made by an aeroplane.
